after watching episodes of sailor moon, getting the childhood feelings back to my senses, i realize this is very different to how me, as an average teen, now, feel as i watch this highy entertaining and amusing anime.
i mean back then i would not at all think sailor neptune and sailor uranus held a homosexual relationship [lesbians]..but instead think sailor uranus has powers so super that in normal human form 'she' is in actual fact a 'he', however after transformation 'he' turns into a 'she' and has a very hot body wearing an extremely short skirt which amazingly doesn't let her private part hang out. -thumbs up- smart japanese people if that was so.
CONVERSELY, now..it's is very much different. as i'm watching this series..i'm very aware of their sexuality..each and one of them. also very critical of the realism between usagi-chan [sailor moon] and mamo-chan [tuxedo mask]'s relationship, considering the two got together [in the modern era] when usagi-chan was FOURTEEN [14] YEARS OLD, while mamo-chan is A UNIVERSITY STUDENT. age gap much?
moving away from sailor moon..what other childhood figures/figurines do we look at now, as we are older, differently? perfect example, BARBIE. i recall as a young little chubby asian kid, i was too in 'love' [very innocent, possessive-love] with barbie dolls [only i was never in possession of one due to a typical cheap-asian background]. why did i 'love' it? it had 'perfect' wavy, long blonde hair, 'perfect' crystal-glittering blue eyes, 'perfect' sweet killer smile [also mention the 'perfect' red/pink lipstick], PLUS she always had the cutest outifts- ever so shiny, and short! that was how a child viewed a barbie doll.
HOWEVER, more grown-up, mature others [including myself] critique this former-perfect doll as the not-so-perfect blonde as she dresses in slutty clothing and poses an 'image' to younglings that wearing short skirts that merely cover your butt-cracks, tops that don't cover more than half of the upper-body is OKAY.
it's amazing how opinions and thoughts change as we mature =]
wonder if i'd view this blog the same way as i do now in another 5 years..? hmmm~
